We have been reading a book in class called Wonder, written by Raquel J. Palacio. It is about a boy named August who was home schooled his whole life and then he has to go to school for the first time in his whole life and meet a bunch of new people. Oh and what makes this story interesting is the fact that that boy is in fact deformed.
What stood out for me when reading this book is the fact of how much people will try make one little boy fit in. The children may not be very nice to him but the teachers and adults in the school actually ask other kids to be friends with him. They are kind and act as though August is normal and they treat him the same.
After I read this book it has definitely changed me. I see people and things differently now. I understand the concept that people are different and you have no right to judge them on the way they look. I understand that some people will never understand that and there will always be rude people out there and no one can really change that. You just have to make sure that you, yourself are being as nice as you can be.
I think I would relate most to Auggie because i am NOT the most popular kid in the school and I'm not "perfect". I don't have a million friends and I'm not a super model, but that doesn't make me a weirdo, a bad person or a freak and I feel it's very ''cruel'' for people to judge you over these things.
Reading Wonder really has changed me and how I see things. I have seen the trailer for the movie and i am really looking forward to watching it. I really advise the book. It has changed me and it will change you too.
